Retreat and Reflect

Image
Our 8th grade students attended their retreat this week.  As Ms. Kathol explained, the word ‘retreat’ comes from many years ago when armies engaged in battle - when they realized they would lose, army leaders yelled ‘retreat’ and took a step back.  Our students took a step back this week to reflect on their experiences, to learn more about themselves, and to contemplate how they wanted their final year at HCA to look.  We discussed the theme of Servant Leadership and how we can collaborate as a team in serving others.  Students enjoyed listening to our guest speaker from Rosemont College, learning more about their personalities and competing in the marshmallow challenge.  I’m confident this experience has prepared them for the busy year ahead! A few reminders: 1. Our gym days are Day 1 and Day 6. 2. Our zip-lining trip is Friday September 27th.  Students will have morning classes and will leave in the afternoon. 3. Intramural volleyball also begins Friday the 27th, after school until 4

Getting Ready for Life After HCA!

This week in Next Steps Class, 8th grade began working on their resumes.  Many of the students commented about how hard it was to capture all of the things they are involved with at Holy Child.  We broke our experience out into sports, performing arts, volunteer experience and awards.  Some students even had paid work experience!  We are still working on fine-tuning some of the formatting but overall, students were really proud of themselves.  I was proud of them, too!
